Located in Hanoi French Quarter, La Verticale Hanoi is an elegant fine-dining restaurant that’s housed in a French colonial-style villa. Established by Chef Didier Courlou, the restaurant’s seasonal menu utilises French techniques as well as the region’s freshest farm produce, herbs, and spices.

With the villa’s original white walls and tiled floors intact, the upstairs dining area is fitted with simple décor, wooden furnishing with white tablecloths, and an open kitchen that delivers quality French-Indochinese cuisine. La Verticale Hanoi also has a spacious roof terrace with comfortable armchairs and excellent views across downtown Hanoi, French Quarter, and Hoan Kiem Lake.

Standout dishes include the duck terrine and rillettes with Hanoi 5 spices, ratatouille, Dalat artichoke leaves served with clams, Ha Long curry sauce, veal in tamarind, and Mekong fruits sorbet. Diners can also opt for the lunch or dinner set menus (with desserts and optional wine pairing), which are priced between VND 218,000 and VND 1,115 000. For drinks, La Verticale Hanoi’s extensive wine list features imported brands such as Figaro, Moulin de Gassac, and South West of France, which are priced at VND 74,000 by glass.

Perfect for souvenirs for loved ones back home, the restaurant’s ground floor hosts a stylish spice shop that resembles an apothecary, where you can find an array of bottled spices such as peppercorns, wild pepper, cinnamon, star anise, turmeric, and aged nuoc cham sauce.

Exuding a relaxed yet sophisticated ambience, the villa-style Camargue Saigon is fitted with high ceilings with exposed beams, subdued lighting, tiled flooring, earth-toned furniture, lit candles, and a private dining room with air-conditioning. The service here is also professional with a team of attentive yet unobtrusive staff on hand – perfect for an intimate evening with loved ones.

Its extensive food menu is helmed by French-born chef, Mickael Le Calvez, presenting French delicacies with a touch of Vietnamese influence, with standout dishes such as seabass and squid served with sweet chard, roast lamb with polenta enriched with Phu Puoc pepper, chateaubriand with foie gras, and crispy pork leg marinated in a slight spice and caramelised artichoke. Catering to its loyal clientele, Camargue Saigon also changes its chef’s recommendation menu on a weekly basis to keep things interesting.

Great for enjoying the rest of the evening at the terrace upstairs, an excellent wine list is also available at Camargue Saigon, offering imported red and white options for about VND 900,000 per glass. Due to its popularity and food quality, it’s worth noting that the price range here is higher compared to most international restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. We also highly recommend visitors to make a reservation at least 24 hours beforehand due to the popularity of this fashionable restaurant.

Lemongrass Restaurant Saigon has been serving both locals and tourists since 1996, making it one of the oldest dining venues in Ho Chi Minh City. Nestled within District 1’s Nguyen Thiep Street (between the famous shopping street of Dong Khoi and the walking promenade of Nguyen Hue street), this restaurant offers authentic Vietnamese cuisine at surprisingly affordable prices.

Occupying a three-storey French colonial building, the interior is set up like a French brasserie-style restaurant. Food-wise, Lemongrass Restaurant Saigon’s signature dishes include the baked prawns with garlic butter and almond (VND 189,000), grilled pork ribs with lemongrass (VND 159,000), and lemongrass-steamed clams (VND 119,000). For dessert, its homemade ice-cream (VND 79,000) and mixed tropical fruit platter (VND 89,000) come highly recommended.

Drinks comprise local and imported beers (VND 59,000), cocktails such as Lemongrass Cocktail (VND 109,000) and fruit juices (between VND 69,000 and VND 89,000). Due to its immense popularity amongst locals and expats in Ho Chi Minh City, Lemongrass Restaurant Saigon has another branch at Palace Hotel Saigon. Located on the 14th floor, diners can enjoy breathtaking views of Nguyen Hue Boulevard and the Saigon River.
