Grand Café is a rooftop bar on the 20th floor of the Grand Hotel, with a unique 360-degree view of the city. What makes the view really remarkable is that you are able to have both a view of the river as well as the city. You will see planes taking off on the west, boats entering the harbour in the east, the skyline of the city in the south and the meandering Saigon River in the north.

The café has a daily happy hour from 15:00 to 18:00. Their cocktails are priced at VND 180,000 (US$ 8.50) and a beer costs you VND 80,000 (US$ 4). The Grand Cafe has indoor and outdoor areas, from which you can enjoy the view while listening to a live band playing famous cover hits every night.

As this rooftop bar is located in the middle of the city centre, it is easily reached and an ideal location to have a drink before or after dinner. Alternatively, just stick around and have something from their European menu offering pizza and tapas while taking pictures of the sunset around 18:30.

Highway4 Hanoi is a Vietnamese restaurant everyone should visit for innovative local Vietnamese dishes and exotic liquors. Open since 2000, the restaurant is a good option for dining in style thanks to its spacious setting decked out in classic Vietnamese décor, local artwork, bamboo furnishing, and floor cushions.

Diners also have a choice of sitting at regular tables or on floor cushions with low tables on the ground floor, while the terrace upstairs offers a view of Hanoi. Perfect for large groups with disparate tastes, all food is served with plenty of local herbs which the restaurant tries to source sustainably, with its extensive menu divided into fire, wood, metal and water (relating to the cooking techniques).

There are plenty of exciting options to choose from and Highway4 Hanoi’s specials include the catfish spring rolls (VND 68,000) to grilled pork hanger steak (VND 128,000). If you have a taste for the unusual, try the crickets with roasted lemon leaves (VND 68,000), pan-fried scorpion (VND 98,000), and frog steamboat (VND 388,000).

Highway4 Hanoi is also popular for serving a selection of Sonh Tinh flavoured liquors (VND 228,000 onwards), which locals claim to be hangover-free due to the brand’s superior distillation techniques and lack of additives. Other drinks served here include draught beers, house spirits, imported wines, soft drinks, coffee, tea, and fresh juices.

With six branches scattered throughout Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District, the pioneer Highway4 Hanoi is located along Hang Tre Street, but there are also newer and bigger outlets at 25 Bat Su Street in the Old Quarter and 31 Xuan Dieu Street near West Lake.

Sen Hanoi at 60 Ly Thai To stands out amongst most restaurants in Hanoi for serving extensive buffet-style dinners in a sophisticated setting. Attracting affluent locals and tourists looking to sample a variety of Vietnamese cuisine in a single sitting, the restaurant is set beside Hanoi Opera House, just across from the Sofitel Metropole hotel in Hanoi’s French Quarter.

There are three other branches of Sen in Hanoi but this is arguably the best of the bunch. Featuring an elegant black-and-white theme, it’s fitted with neo-colonial décor, chandeliers, mirrors, white tablecloths, wooden furnishing, a massive buffet area set up in the centre, and spacious seating arrangements that make Sen Hanoi feel like a proper sit-down restaurant.

Sen Hanoi at 60 Ly Thai To’s buffet dinners are priced at VND 210,000 (not inclusive of drinks), where diners are presented with plenty of Asian and European delicacies to choose from, including over 60 traditional dishes from three regions in Vietnam. Standouts include grilled lobsters, fresh salmon, oysters, sashimi, crab, and escargot, as well as Vietnamese spring rolls, thenem sen (lotus rolls), cha ca (grilled fish), bun cha (grilled pork with noodles), and banh duc (Vietnamese cake).

The restaurant’s overall atmosphere is high-class, but it can get very bustling during peak dinner hours. Nonetheless, the service here is seamless thanks to its team of professional and English-speaking staff.

Thanks to its classy dining space, good quality and diverse menu that’s also excellent value for money, Sen Hanoi at 60 Ly Thai To’s buffet dinner will impress everyone – even people who don’t usually like buffets! Due to its popularity, it’s always a good idea to make a reservation before making your way to Sen Hanoi.

Located in Hanoi French Quarter, La Verticale Hanoi is an elegant fine-dining restaurant that’s housed in a French colonial-style villa. Established by Chef Didier Courlou, the restaurant’s seasonal menu utilises French techniques as well as the region’s freshest farm produce, herbs, and spices.

With the villa’s original white walls and tiled floors intact, the upstairs dining area is fitted with simple décor, wooden furnishing with white tablecloths, and an open kitchen that delivers quality French-Indochinese cuisine. La Verticale Hanoi also has a spacious roof terrace with comfortable armchairs and excellent views across downtown Hanoi, French Quarter, and Hoan Kiem Lake.

Standout dishes include the duck terrine and rillettes with Hanoi 5 spices, ratatouille, Dalat artichoke leaves served with clams, Ha Long curry sauce, veal in tamarind, and Mekong fruits sorbet. Diners can also opt for the lunch or dinner set menus (with desserts and optional wine pairing), which are priced between VND 218,000 and VND 1,115 000. For drinks, La Verticale Hanoi’s extensive wine list features imported brands such as Figaro, Moulin de Gassac, and South West of France, which are priced at VND 74,000 by glass.

Perfect for souvenirs for loved ones back home, the restaurant’s ground floor hosts a stylish spice shop that resembles an apothecary, where you can find an array of bottled spices such as peppercorns, wild pepper, cinnamon, star anise, turmeric, and aged nuoc cham sauce.

While the price range here is much higher compared to most restaurants in Hanoi, La Verticale’s excellent food-and-beverage offerings, romantic ambience, and old-world charm makes it a favourite dining spot amongst the city’s expats and affluent locals.

3G Trois Gourmands Saigon is a French restaurant that has been impressing affluent locals and expats since its inception in 2004. Occupying a two-storey colonial villa in District 2, its minimalistic interiors and secluded location makes it an ideal venue for romantic dinners. The restaurant also has an outdoor dining section, with plenty of tables overlooking a tropical garden and swimming pool.

On the ala carte menu, you’ll find a wide range of authentic French dishes such as seared lamb fillet, lobster with butter sauce, seabass ravioli with truffle and wine sauce, and duck breast with orange sauce. 3G Trois Gourmands Saigon also offers degustation menus that cost between USD35 and USD45, each of which includes an amuse bouche, appetizers, a main dish, homemade cheese, and dessert.

If you’d like to enjoy some wine with your meals, do ask owner Gils Brault for a recommendation as he had previously worked as a sommelier before founding the restaurant. Set along Tran Ngoc Dien Street, 3G Trois Gourmands Saigon is accessible within a 20-minute drive from Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1. We also highly recommend making a reservation beforehand as the restaurant tends to get packed especially during the weekends and holidays.
